Bhopal: Kolar, Govindpura major contributors to corona tally in the state capital

BHOPAL: Kolar and Govindpura were the main regions that contributed almost 50 per cent to the corona tally in the state capital. There are other regions like Jahangirabad which covers mostly old city, Bairagarh, TT Nagar, Berasia and MP Nagar. At present, corona cases totally declined but at one stage, Bhopal used to report over 1800 in the second wave which prevailed for two months --April and May.

On April 1, Bhopal had an infection tally of 51,950 while on May 31, it went to 1,20,872. It shows that in April-May, Bhopal reported 68,922 corona cases. Total lockdown was imposed on April 10. Prior to that, selective lockdown was imposed in Kolar region and preparations were on for imposition for selective lockdown in Govindpura.

However, Kolar always led the tally and this was the reason it was picked up for selective lockdown initially. It covers five police stations-- Kolar, Shahpura, Habibganj, Misrod and Bagsewania. Kolar contributed more than 25 per cent to the overall corona tally. Colonies under Kolar police station contributed almost 40 per cent to the tally of Kolar region.

Similarly, Govindpura comes next as it contributed 15 to 20 per cent to the overall tally of corona infection. After Kolar region, it was Govindpura region which was selected for selective lockdown.

ADM Sandeep Karkatta said, "Kolar was always top in contributing corona cases to the tally of state capital. It contributed more than 25 per cent to the total. Then comes Govindpura which also made a sizable contribution to the corona tally. These two regions were on the hit list of administration when the issue was raised for selective lockdown just before the uniform lockdown. However, selective lockdown was also imposed in Kolar which covered five police stations-- Misrod, Shahpura, Habibganj, Kolar and Bagsewania. The other regions like Bairagarh, MP Nagar, Berasia and even Jahangirabad which covers most of the old city and congested areas, were comparatively far better."
