Free Press Journal, What COVID-19? Social distancing goes for a toss at NCP HQ inaugural event in Pune as Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar graces the function

The Nationalist Congress Party's headquarter office in Pune was inaugrated on Saturday by Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ajit Pawar. During the inaugral event, a huge crowd of NCP workers was seen. Notably, Pune had once seen massive surge in COVID-19 cases and today at the event social distancing went for a toss as protocols were completely flouted. Notably, this mess happened in front of Ajit Pawar itself who is also the guardian minister of Pune.

The new NCP office is 5,000 square feet in size and has enough parking space. The new office has all the modern amenities like a conference room, a media room, and studio. NCP’s existing office is on Tilak road and it is 300 square feet in area.

The party chief Sharad Pawar had instructed party officials several times to identify a site for a new office. Until now, NCP either needed to hire a hotel for meetings or to organise meetings at the Nisarg Mangal Karyalaya, located near Market Yard.

Notably, Ajit Pawar had also held a meeting today with officials to review the coronavirus situation in Pune district. He asked people not to lower their guard against COVID-19 in view of the possible third wave of the pandemic, and warned them against visiting tourist attractions in the present scenario just because restrictions have been eased.

He said people need to take the warning about the third wave seriously.

He also said that if people continue to go out of the district for tourism purposes, the administration will have no other option but to impose a 15-day quarantine regime on such people after their return home.

Pune city is under level-II of the state government's unlock plan. The coronavirus numbers are coming down, but as a preemptive measure, it has been decided that all the shops under the non-essential category, malls, hotels, and restaurants will remain closed on weekends, Pawar said.
