West Bengal Budget announced amidst BJP criticism

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress government in their budget for Financial Year 2022 had given stress on Krishak Bandhu, Lakshmir Bhandar and students credit cards schemes.

In February by placing vote on account in the Assembly Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced 26 new schemes and projects and all of them were mentioned in the new budget by the Trinamool Congress government.

As West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra is unwell, TMC secretary general Partha Chatterjee on Wednesday had read out 3.08- lakh- crore rupees Budget in the assembly.

“The state government had decided to waive off road tax on passenger transport vehicles till December 31 and offered a rebate on stamp duty registration of deeds by two percent. Over two thousand crore has been added to the Krishak Bandhu scheme and 500 crore rupees to the student's credit card scheme,” said Partha.

The TMC secretary general also said that the state government will soon launch a basic income scheme for women ‘Lakshmir Bhandar’.

During his speech Partha also announced allocation of several amounts for major departments like health and school education during the ongoing financial year.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for reshuffling the cabinet instead of reducing fuel prices.

“BJP is a lost case for 2024 elections. Despite being ignored from the centre Bengal is ahead of many states and is also independent. We have vaccinated almost 2 crore 30 lakh people in the state,” claimed Mamata.

Countering the claims, BJP MLA Ashok Lahiri said that Mamata Banerjee should first issue a statement mentioning how many vaccines her government had bought and how many did the BJP led central government sent.

Lahiri also questioned the state government that without CAG audits how they can say ‘actual budget allocation’.

Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari said that the budget is actually for eight months as there are several discrepancies between the interim budget done ahead of the assembly poll.

“Ahead of polls in the interim budget there was mention of several projects in North Bengal and in today’s budget mention of North Bengal isn’t there. The state government is asking the center to lower the price of petroleum products, first they should leave at least rupees 20 from 38 rupees of tax the state government takes and we will then request the centre,” slammed Suvendu.
