Indore: Section of nurses continue with strike for the second day

Indore: The ordeal of patients admitted to Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital and other associated hospitals increased as the strike of nursing staff continued for the second day on Thursday.

The nursing staff staged a demonstration at the main entrance of MY Hospital to press for their 12-point demands.

However, the dispute between the associations of nursing staff came to the fore as the other association, which was not participating in the strike, sought the support of the administration to work in the hospital uninterruptedly.

“More than 150 members of our association Nurses Prantiya Vibhagiya Samiti didn’t support the ongoing strike of other associations as the government has assured us that they will meet our demands at the earliest. Many of the agitating nurses are preventing us from working and we will lodge a complaint with the administration for the same,” state president of Nurses Prantiya Vibhagiya Samiti, Ramesh Jaat, said.

He added that they had ended their protest after the assurance of the government to meet our demands in one month and work for the same has also been started as steps are being taken to change the name of nursing staff to nursing officers and also to recruit 10 per cent male nurses.

Meanwhile, president of the Nurses Association, which is on strike, Dharmendra Pathak said, “Over 500 members of our association including senior nurses are on strike for our long-pending demands. We are not disrupting anyone's work and we even distributed roses to them.”

He said that they will continue the strike till their demands are met.

Nursing students and temporary contractual employees of National Health Mission too joined the demonstration with the nurses.

Pathak said that they have also taken out candle march in the hospital campus to pay tribute to their colleagues who succumbed to COVID-19.
