NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath arrived in Delhi on Thursday on a 2-day visit, signalling softening of approach towards Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in the ongoing ego clash.
It also indicates an attempt by Yogi to avoid a showdown now and striking a hard bargain later in the runup to the Assembly elections early next month, especially when it comes to allocation of party tickets.
He rushed to Delhi a day after the BJP created some hype by inducting into the party Jitin Prasada, a leading Brahmin face who is expected to play a key role in resetting the optics of a government perceived as pro-Thakur.
Yogi kicked off his visit with a meeting with Amit Shah on Thursday afternoon; he has also sought appointments with Prime Minister Modi and party president Nadda on Friday.
Yogi's prime concern is to undo the criticism of his government's handling of the Covid pandemic and counter many party MPs and MLAs who are going public with their assessment of the State government's ham-handed Covid management.
He had seized the opportunity thrown up by the BJP leadership last week, bringing curtains down on the talk of replacing him with former bureaucrat A K Sharma, a trusted aide of Modi, who has been inducted into the ministry recently.
