In a major bureaucratic reshuffle, the Maharashtra government on Thursday appointed the principal secretary of housing, SVR Srinivas (IAS 1991), as the new Mumbai Metropolitan Commissioner, as incumbent RA Rajeev’s term expired on May 31 and additional metropolitan commissioner Sonia Sethi was holding charge. Srinivasan, who enjoys a good rapport with Tourism and Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray, will focus on expediting crucial infrastructure projects, including the 300km metro rail projects, the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link and the Sewri-Worli Connector, apart from making the operations of Mumbai Monorail sustainable.
Principal Secretary (Forests) Milind Mhaiskar (IAS 1992) will succeed Srinivas as the principal secretary of housing department. Mhaiskar has earlier worked as the CEO, Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA). He will be involved in fast-tracking the redevelopment of MHADA colonies, the Dharavi and BDD chawl redevelopments and long-pending slum rehabilitation projects.
The government has appointed Lokesh Chandra (IAS 1993), principal secretary (AR&OM), general administration department, as general manager, BEST. Chandra’s mandate will be the revival and restoration of BEST’s past glory.
SICOM Managing Director B Venugopal Reddy (IAS 1994) has been posted as principal secretary of forest department.
Further, the government has appointed Vikas Chandra Rastogi (IAS 1995), project director, Nanaji Deshmukh Krishi Sanjeevani Project, as principal secretary (AO&RM) in the general administration department.
Managing Director S N Bhange (IAS 2003), Maharashtra State Fisheries Development Corporation, has been appointed secretary and special enquiry officer, general administration department.
Dr Shrikar Pardeshi (IAS 2001), who has returned from Central deputation, has been posted as SICOM MD.
Gondia District Collector Deepak Kumar Meena (IAS 2013) has been appointed deputy secretary, Bahujan Welfare and OBC Department, Mantralaya.
