The state government has finalised eight temples from the proposed list of old and ancient temples given by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) for restoration and conservation. These temples include Ekveera Aai at Lonavala, Markandeshwar at Gadchiroli and Aandeshwar at Amravati, amongst others.
These temples are hundreds of years old, like the Aandeshwar temple was built in the 13th century. An official from MSRDC, who did not wish to be named, said that restoration and conservation is usually done by the Archaeology Department. However, the Tourism Department wants to carry out the work in full swing and, therefore, MSRDC has been involved. "Since these temples are of historic importance, archeology experts will be involved in the restoration. A pre-bid was held recently in which more than 10 agencies had participated. Since the meeting was held in office and due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only these many agencies have participated. Otherwise, if it would have been kept online via video conferencing and the participation would have been much more," asserted the official.
In the pre-bid meeting, however, agencies have appealed for extra time to submit the proposals for the projects. Therefore, MSRDC has given time for submission till July 28, which was June earlier.
Interested companies wishing to participate in the tendering process can make submissions of their proposed planning. Thereafter, MSRDC will call a tender based on a detailed project report for final allotment of work order, stated the official.
