Maharashtra has cumulatively vaccinated 2,75,76,177 beneficiaries for COVID-19 as on June 20. The state continues to remain at the top amongst other states since the vaccination drive was launched on January 16. Of the 2,75,76,177 beneficiaries, 2,20,99,860 received the first dose and 54,76,317 received the second dose. According to the Public Health Department, so far, 27,66,93,572 vaccine doses were administered.

Uttar Pradesh ranked second with the cumulative vaccination of 2,55,72,580 beneficiaries, followed by Gujarat at 2,18,81,230, Rajasthan at 2,08,58,822, West Bengal at 1,89,20,801, Karnataka at 1,83,92,309, Madhya Pradesh at 1,50,10,092, Bihar at 1,35,00,283, Andhra Pradesh at 1,24,93,328, Tamil Nadu at 1,24,75,687 and Odisha at 98,13,584.

On June 19, a total of 3,81,035 citizens were inoculated in 3,680 sessions in Maharashtra.

Maharashtra has begun the COVID-19 vaccination drive for people aged between 30-44 years from Saturday. The state had demanded permission from the union government to start a special drive for the 30-44 age group, as it largely covers the working sections of the population, which would enable further relaxation of restrictions on shops, businesses and commercial activities.

The Co-WIN application will have a new category for the 30-44 age group. People in this category can also register themselves directly at the state-run vaccination centres. Private hospitals will continue to vaccinate the 18-44 age group as per their schedule. The vaccination of above 45 age groups will also continue as vials for this category are supplied by the union government separately.

The central government had allowed the prioritising of vaccines amid a limited supply. The state had provided free vaccines for the 18-44 age group from May 1 to May 12, before it suspended the drive to prioritise those due for the second dose.

Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope said he has urged the central government to allocate vaccines to Maharashtra based on its population and the number of COVID-19 cases to conduct the vaccination drive from June 21 for 18 years and above.
