The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) which has initiated the work of another Jumbo Covid makeshift hospital at Malad now targets to finish it by June 15. The officials made a site visit and instructed all agencies to accelerate the work and ensure the project is completed by the set deadline. The Covid care centre will have over 2,000 beds that can treat patients, including those who are critical. In fact, a 22-bed facility for children has also been made here.
The Malad jumbo care centre will have an ICU and oxygenated beds. Also, to avoid oxygen deprivation to needy patients, this makeshift Covid dedicated hospital will have oxygen supply system within its premises.
Mumbai is gearing up to get ahead of a potential third wave that experts fear could affect children. As part of it, MMRDA has been given the task by the state government to construct this jumbo Covid facility. On sprawling 40,000 sq. Mt of vacant land provided by the BMC this hospital will come up which will have all medical care facility.
Interestingly, the responsibility to construct this second Jumbo covid- 19 hospital by state government was handed over to the MMRDA since it had earlier successfully built the first Jumbo Covid-19 makeshift hospital in a sprawling open ground at Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) that too in a record-breaking time period.
The said facility even today is serving Covid-19 positive patients largely and has assisted Mumbai in controlling the situation. The BKC jumbo covid centre was also compared to Wuhan type hospital.
On the other hand, the BMC is also reportedly building four big centres across the city with units for treatment of children infected with Covid. It is working closely with a special task force that includes some of India's top pediatrician.
