Maharashtra’s 13 districts continue to report high Covid positivity rate

Even though the Maharashtra government has introduced relaxation in stringent lockdown conditions from June 1, ten districts — Pune, Satara, Mumbai, Kolhapur, Thane, Sangli, Ahmednagar, Nagpur,Nashik and Solapur continue to constitute 68.37 per cent of the total active Covid patients.

In addition to this, 17 districts have a high weekly growth rate of patients compared to the state average of 0.34 per cent. These districts included Sindudurg (2.20 per cent), Kolhapur (1.74 per cent), Ratnagiri (1.36 per cent), Satara (1.29 per cent), Sangli (0.92 per cent), Buldhana (0.70 per cent), Beed (0.65 per cent), Washim (0.61 per cent), Osmanabad (0.56 per cent), Amravati (0.55 per cent), Ahmednagar (0.51 per cent), Solapur (0.50 per cent), Palghar (0.47 per cent), Akola (0.46 per cent), Yavatmal (0.46 per cent), Raigad (0.43 per cent) and Gadchiroli (0.36 per cent).

The department of public health in its presentation to the state cabinet said of the total 36 districts, 13 districts have a high weekly positivity rate which is more than the state average of 8.47 per cent. These districts comprise Raigad (18.59 per cent), Ratnagiri (17.32 per cent), Satara (16.73 per cent), Sangli (16.10 per cent), Kolhapur (16.04 per cent), Pune (14.23 per cent), Buldhana (13.96 per cent), Sindhudurg (13.19 per cent), Beed (9.06 per cent), Osmanabad (8.90 per cent), Thane (8.85 per cent), Bhandara (8.82 per cent) and Nashik (8.74 per cent).

Only five districts recorded higher per million tests compared with the state average of 2,72,868 tests per million. These districts included Mumbai (5,46,344), Nagpur (4,62,071), Thane (4,13,534), Pune (4,13,325) and Bhandara (3,01,370).

In a bid to tackle the possible third wave of the COVID 19 pandemic, the state has in all 4,74,798 isolation beds excluding ICU, 3,39,732 isolation beds for COVID 19 patients, 1,35,027 isolation beds for suspects, 1.06,318 oxygen beds , 32,503 ICU beds, 12,699 ventilators, 13,98,729 PPE kits and 22.04,970 N95 masks.

The state continues to top among other states in COVID 19 vaccination. Cumulatively, 2,28,32,743 people were vaccinated as of June 2.

The public health department made a presentation on a day when 15,169 new COVID 19 cases and 285 deaths were reported while 29,270 were discharged on Wednesday in Maharashtra. The state has a fatality rate of 1.67 per cent.
