Indore: Intensifying their protest for pressing their demands, the nursing staff of hospitals associated with Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College struck work for two hours on Tuesday.

They also took out a rally in the hospital campus along with staging demonstrations against the government.

However, the nursing associations have postponed going on indefinite strike till next week as they will continue the symbolic protest till then.

“Earlier, we decided to go on strike from June 16 but have postponed it till next week. We will hold a meeting with other members from across the state and will decide the date for going on indefinite strike,” president of nurses association Dharmendra Pathak said.

Meanwhile, divisional secretary of nurses vibhagya prantiya samiti Natwar Parashar said that they will continue to protest against the government as they are not even listening to our long pending demands even after the week-long protest.

“We didn’t let any work be affected for the last one week due to our strike but the government has not left any option for us but to go on strike. We continue to stage symbolic protests on Tuesday and take out a rally and form a human chain for the awakening government from its slumber,” Parashar said.

Reiterating the demands, he said, their major ones include increase in grade pay, pension scheme, compassionate appointments and others. We have been requesting the government to consider our long-pending demands but to no avail. We have decided on a week-long protest.

“Nursing staff worked hard during the first wave and second wave of COVID-19 and many of our colleagues have died due to the disease. Now the infection has come under control, the government should consider our long-pending demands” Parashar said.
