India has reported 84,332 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the lowest daily count since the second wave hit the country. As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare data, the country has been recording less than 1 lakh daily new cases for the past five days. The active caseload has further declined to less than 11 lakh after 63 days, staying below 20 lakh for 12 successive days now. In the past 24 hours, a net decline of 40,981 cases has been witnessed.
Five states that registered the maximum cases in 24 hours are Tamil Nadu with 15,759 cases, followed by Kerala with 14,233 cases, Maharashtra with 11,766 cases, Karnataka with 8,249 cases and Andhra Pradesh with 8,239 cases.
At least 69 per cent of the new cases have been reported from these five states, with Tamil Nadu alone responsible for 18.69% of fresh infections.
According to the ministry, daily recoveries continued to outnumber new cases for the 30th consecutive day. The recovery rate has increased to 95.07%. Further, the daily positivity rate stands at 4.39%, with less than 10% positivity for 19 continuous days.
In its presentation released on Saturday, the ministry stated that out of the citizens infected since the beginning of the pandemic, 2,79,11,384 have already recovered and 1,21,311 have recovered in the last 24 hours. This constitutes an overall recovery rate of 95.07%, which is showing a sustained trend.
The statement read, “While on the one hand, testing has been enhanced across the country, a continued decline in weekly case positivity is being noticed on the other. The weekly positivity rate is currently at 4.94%, even as the daily positivity rate stands at 4.39% today. It has remained less than 10% for 19 consecutive days now.”
With “substantially ramped up testing capacity” across the country, a total of 19,20,477 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. India has conducted over 37.62 crore tests so far.
As per the ministry, more than 25.87 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses have so far been provided to the states and union territories by the Centre under the direct state procurement category. Of 25,87,41,810 doses administered, the total consumption, including wastage, stands at 24,76,58,855 doses.
