Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Govindpura police have taken into custody the property dealer who had opened fire on a shopkeeper on Saturday night. The victim was injured in the arm and is undergoing treatment at a hospital. However, the police smell a rat in the incident as the investigation suggests that the accused, Vasant, was not present at the spot.
The victim, however, has told the police that the accused waylaid him and opened fire on him near the Chaar Waal area of Govindpura around 9.30 pm.
He claimed to have seen Vasant and, now, the police doubt his theory as he was not around at the time. The complainant runs a shop in Mehta Market and was returning home when two men waylaid him and opened fire on him from close range.
The police say the accused is a property dealer and had taken money from the victim. It looks as if it is a matter of monetary dispute but investigations are underway from all angles, say the police.
Additional superintendent of police (ASP) Rajesh Singh says accused Vasant is in their custody but there is no evidence suggesting his presence at the spot where the firing occurred. He said the complainant was undergoing treatment and, once the police grilled him further, the truth would be revealed.
