Navi Mumbai Police have initiated an inquiry against the three constables and the police officer who escorted sacked Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Vaze from Taloja Central Jail to appear before the Chandiwal Commission in Mumbai. The primary inquiry report is expected within a month and, accordingly, action will be taken if they are found guilty, said a senior police official from Navi Mumbai.
Mumbai Police had found the three constables and police officer guilty of dereliction of duty for having allowed Vaze to meet former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh on the sidelines of the commission.
Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Bipin Kumar Singh confirmed to The Free Press Journal that he has received a report from Mumbai Police and, accordingly, an inquiry is being conducted by the DCP (administration) Abhijeet Shivthare.
Former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh’s lawyer had taken objection to the alleged meeting and brought the matter before the Chandiwal commission. It was alleged that Param Bir Singh met Vaze in an adjoining room and talked for some time. Vaze, who was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the Antilia bomb scare case and the related murder of Thane trader Mansukh Hiran, and is lodged at Taloja jail in Navi Mumbai, had been brought before the commission for cross-examination by lawyers of several parties to the inquiry.
