Fire in Mumbai high-rise building; no casualty

A minor fire broke out at an apartment in a 35-storey building in Mumbai's Worli area in the wee hours of Sunday, a fire official said.

It was a 'level-1' (minor) fire and no one was injured, he said.

The fire brigade received a call at 1.53 am about the blaze in the flat located on the 17th floor of the 'Marathon' building in Gandhi Nagar locality of Worli, the official said.

Phone tapping case: IPS Rashmi Shukla not named as accused, can't seek quashing of FIR, Maha to HC

The Maharashtra government has told the Bombay High Court that senior IPS officer Rashmi Shukla has not been named as an accused in the case of alleged illegal phone tapping and leaking of confidential documents related to police transfers and postings, and hence she cannot seek quashing of the FIR.

In an affidavit filed on Saturday, the government said the investigation only pertains to how sensitive and confidential information was unauthorisedly leaked to third parties from the State Intelligence Department (SID) and has got nothing to do with the contents of the said documents.

Body found, sketch made to establish identity of woman

Police in Mankhurd in Mumbai have had to take help of a sketch artist in an effort to establish the identity of a woman whose highly-decomposed body was found from a nullah last month but a matching missing complaint record could not be found anywhere in the city, an official said on Sunday.

The body of the woman, in her early 20s as per the post mortem report, was found on August 22 but the checking of scores of CCTV clips from the area as well as probe with people in the vicinity drew a blank about her identity, he said.

Four held with counterfeit branded watches

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police arrested four persons with counterfeit watches of premium international brands after raiding a shopping centre at Tardeo in south Mumbai, an official said on Sunday.

Police seized Rs 16,45,000 from the accused after raiding four commercial units located in the shopping centre on Saturday night.
