The NCB has arrested two persons, including a Nigerian national, for allegedly running a drug racket. One of the accused travelled to various parts of the country to via air and road to deliver the drugs. He was procuring drugs from various African nationals from Delhi and Mumbai. The agency has seized cocaine and mephedrone worth Rs 5 lakh.
The accused have been identified as Suffran Lakdawala and Blessing Edwin Okereke.
Explaining about the operation, which began on Tuesday, Zonal Director of Mumbai NCB, Sameer Wankhede said they had received a tip-off about the accused. The NCB, along with the Mira Road police, arrested Lakdawala in Mira Road on Tuesday. He then disclosed the name of Okereke.
"On preliminary disclosure of Lakdawala, a team of NCB Mumbai intercepted one Nigerian national Blessing Edwin Okereke and recovered Mephedrone and cocaine in intermediate quantity at Nalasopara on Wednesday. During the operation, a unique modus operandi was uncovered by NCB. Lakdawala used to procure drugs from various foreign nationals from Delhi and Mumbai and would take orders from people based in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and West Bengal and would travel via air or road to deliver the drugs, especially cocaine. It is surprising he was never caught during frisking at the airports. A case has been registered by the NCB against Lakdawala and Okereke," said Wankhede.
The arrested duo was produced before a local court which remanded them to five days NCB custody, agency officials informed.
