The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority(MHADA) has planted a maximum number of Miyawaki plants with the Japanese method in its Bandra based headquarters' open garden area on Thursday. In the presence of State Environment Minister Aditya Thackeray, and Mumbai Building Repair and Reconstruction board (MBRRB) Chairman Vinod Ghosalkar, and other officers this plantation programme was organised.
According to MHADA, under this initiative 300 plants of 40 different species were planted through the Miyawaki method. Ghosalkar said, "The plantation drive will motivate everyone towards planting more trees. With Miyawaki method the growth of plants will be greater. In just one year, the height of plants grow by 5 feet. In this method, since the saplings are planted close to each other, the density is visible".
Meanwhile, the MHADA employees collected Rs 31.50 lakh as one-two days of their salary of May month and handed it to the Chief Minister Relief Fund for Covid-19 related medical treatment.
