BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will resume vaccination drives for COVID-19 from 9am to 4pm today (July 7). Meanwhile, the vaccination drive is likely to be halted on Thursday, as the civic body doesn’t have sufficient doses. Civic officials said they are expecting some doses on Wednesday night or else they will be suspending drive.
“We have less than 40,000 vaccine doses through which we can vaccinate beneficiaries today (July 7). But if we don’t get doses by Wednesday night, then we might suspend the drive on Thursday,” said a senior health officer.
According to the data, 69,515 beneficiaries were vaccinated at the 401 covid vaccine centres across the city, of which 35,493 were between 18 to 44 years of age.
Meanwhile, beneficiaries had to face problems at the vaccination centres, as there is no proper communication at the centres regarding how many doses they have and how many beneficiaries can be vaccinated. “For the last three days, I have been visiting the vaccination centres and I have been returned every time, saying doses are out of stock. I didn't understand when 50 per cent walk-ins are allowed, then on what basis they are distributing vaccines, which are getting out of stock within two to three hours of the drive,” said Sameer Shaikh, resident of Parel.
