Revenue Minister and Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat slammed Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis for his statement that the Maha Vikas Aghadi would be defeated if the midterm elections were held in Maharashtra. Thorat took a dig at Fadnavis, saying that he has a habit of predicting midterm polls in the state. However, the Maha Vikas Aghadi government will complete its five-year term and Fadnavis should not be surprised if the alliance won the next assembly elections in the state.
“There will be no midterm elections in Maharashtra. The MVA government has been in power for two years and it will complete its full term. It will not be a surprise if the MVA government comes back to power after the next elections,” said Thorat.
Thorat’s comment is also important as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been repeatedly issuing new dates for the collapse of the MVA government due to internal contradictions. However, Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress have ruled it out.
Thorat asked Fadnavis to stop criticising Congress for staging agitation against the fuel price rise. Instead, Fadnavis should use his good offices for its reduction, which is the need of the hour to give relief to the common man. Meanwhile, Thorat reiterated that the assembly speaker’s post will remain with the Congress as per the agreement reached amongst the three ruling partners.
