Madhya Pradesh: CCF, Gwalior, opposes transfer of sub-divisional officer Shradha Pendre

Bhopal (Gwalior): The transfer of Shradha Pendre, superintendent, Chambal Sanctuary, Deori, who had reined in illegal miners in the Chambal region has started gaining heat and dust. After several political leaders, now, the additional principal chief conservator of forests (APCCF), Gwalior, has written to the head of forests that her transfer will break the morale of forest officials engaged in the conservation of forest and wildlife.

APCCF, Gwalior Circle, Shashi Malik has written to the head of forest forces (HoFF) and principal chief conservator of forests, urging them to cancel the transfer of Shradha Pendre.

Pendre was transferred to Manpur, Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, on July 14. The way she had taken on illegal miners in the region was widely discussed and published in the media, as well. She was also attacked by the sand mining mafia.

Malik has written that Pendre was doing praiseworthy work and, in her short stint, had confiscated as many as 84 vehicles engaged in illegal mining of sand and boulders and medicinal herbs. The confiscated vehicles include 40 sand-laden tractors with trollies, 5 trollies, 5 trucks, 1 Scorpio, 7 motorcycles, 2 pick-up loading vans with wood and 24 tractors laden with illegally excavated stones and other materials.

Shradha played an important role in saving endangered crocodiles too. “Her transfer will boost the morale of the mining mafia and demoralise officials engaged in the conservation of endangered wildlife,” wrote Malik. If such honest forest officials are “rewarded” in this manner, who will come forward to further the cause of conservation of endangered species? he asked.

Earlier, the Congress, too, had objected to the transfer of the officer who had made headlines for stopping illegal mining in the Chambal region. She had joined as superintendent, National Chambal Sanctuary, Deori, on April 12, 2021. She has been transferred only in 3 months and 2 days.
