Indore: On the fourth day of their strike, nursing staff of Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital and hospitals associated with Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College returned their certificates of Corona Warriors to the dean on Saturday.
A delegation of nurses also met Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at city airport and submitted a memorandum to press their demands.
“Over 20 nurses returned their Corona Warrior certificates to the dean of MGM Medical College on Saturday as a protest. We don’t want any such award when the government can't take steps for our welfare. Our demands are pending for a long time and we have knocked on the doors of all officials and leaders to meet our demands but in vain,” president of Nurses Association Dharmendra Pathak said.
He added that they met the Chief Minister at the airport and pressed for their demands.
“The Chief Minister assured us to talk to the minister of medical education for our demands. He also said that nurses have played an important role in pulling out the state from COVID-19 and the government will never forget their determination of serving people,” Pathak said.
Earlier, the agitating nurses shouted slogans against the government and also staged a street play as a protest. He saidtheir major demands include an increase in grade pay, pension scheme, compassionate appointments and others. We have been requesting the government to consider our long-pending demands but to no avail. We have decided on a week-long protest.
Along with nurses, contractual employees of National Health Mission too joined the protest as they were removed from the job while nursing students too joined the protest to press their demands.
