Kolkata: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Asansol MP Babul Supriyo on Thursday said that his post on social media regarding his resignation has been misinterpreted by everyone.
“In my post I had written ‘where there is smoke there will be fire’ and ‘asked to resign’. People are thinking that I have shown my displeasure with my party. But the truth is BJP national president JP Nadda had called me and asked me to resign and said that he wants to utilize me in organizational works. I have never shown any discontent,” claimed the singer-turned-politician.
Notably, earlier this day, West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh without naming Babul had said that no other minister but ‘he’ (Babul) had written ‘asked to resign’ clearly indicating his (Babul)’s displeasure with the decision of senior BJP leaderships.
“12 ministers who were asked to resign on Wednesday so that new faces can come up. No one but he (Babul) had made such comments. This is how a party functions and you need to accept it. It would have been better that he was fired directly,” questioned Dilip.
It can be recalled that Babul had lost to TMC’s Aroop Biswas from Tollygunge seat in the recently concluded Assembly election.
It is pertinent to mention that in 2014 Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the poll campaigns had directly stated that he will induct the celebrity candidate in his ministry and after Babul’s win he was made Union Minister of State for Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises and after 2019 Lok Sabha election where Babul was reelected as the MP he was made Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
