Kolkata: Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has written a letter to West Bengal Assembly Speaker Biman Bandhopadhyay to work in harmony and togetherness as he had complained against Dhankhar to the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
Expressing grief about his complaint to Om Birla, Dhankhar in his letter had written that he is saddened and anguished.
“Nothing can be more unfortunate and distanced from reality. Such a stand, more so in the forum concerned, is not in consonance with the office you hold. Just ponder that not even once you have thought of deliberating the issue, if at all any, with me,” read the letter.
Dhankhar also mentioned in his letter that Biman Bandhopadhyay had given ‘wrong’ briefs to the media that the Governor is holding back several briefs passed in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.
“The Dunlop India (Acquisition and Transfer of Undertaking) Bill, 2016 and the West Bengal (Prevention of Lynching) Bill 2019. This aspect too is unfortunately bereft of any factual foundation. No Bill, save one, is pending consideration at my end, and therein too there is delay in response from the concerned," further read the letter.
Dhankhar, earlier this day, also took to Twitter and urged the West Bengal Legislative Assembly Speaker “to work in togetherness in a harmonious manner to uphold and justify the essence and spirit of the Constitution for ensuring the overall welfare of the people @MamataOfficial." "Adherence to constitutional norms is quintessential to democracy & rule of law," he added.

Notably, on June 22 during the virtual All India Speakers’ Conference, the West Bengal Assembly Speaker had complained to Om Birla about Dhankhar and said, “Excessive interference of Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar in both parliamentary democracy and the functioning of the Assembly. Despite being passed by the Assembly, several bills are lying with the Governor as he has not signed them.”
