Mumbai to remain under level 3 of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions; here's full list of guidelines

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday said Mumbai will remain under level 3 of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions.

In a notification issued on Friday evening, the BMC has noted three points for not raising Mumbai's level from 3 to 2.

"1. The geography of Mumbai city and its population density. 2. Crowds in local trains coming from the suburbs of Mumbai. 3. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall in the coming days in Mumbai," the notification read.

Taking the above points into consideration, Mumbai will remain under level 3 of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions and the previous guidelines must be followed, it added.

Speaking to TOI, BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said there are still around 700-800 COVID-19 cases per day. "It's not that cases have disappeared. We are taking a very cautious and graded approach to unlocking in Mumbai so that we don’t have to go back into lockdown. We will monitor the situation closely till the last week of June and take a decision on further easing of restrictions,” Chahal said.
