Mumbai: Talks between states, Centre must be done regularly, says Fadnavis

Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday welcomed the meeting between prime minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Uddhav Thackeray saying that the dialogue between the Centre and the states should happen regularly. He hastened to add that during such meetings CM gets exclusive time to interact with the prime minister.

“I am glad that the CM, who was accompanied by deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar and public work minister Ashok Chavan, held talks with the Centre. Communication and dialogue always pay off. Modi and Balasaheb Thackeray had a good relationship. The meeting between the two will benefit Maharashtra,’’ said Fadnavis.

“Maharashtra gets Central aid. However, it would be better to pursue the issues which are in the jurisdiction of the Centre instead of those who are in the state government’s purview,” he suggested

“The issue of OBC reservation is limited to Maharashtra. That reservation is safe in other states of the country. Therefore, the Maharashtra government itself will have to take further action by setting up a backward class commission as mentioned in the Supreme Court order. Even in the context of Maratha reservation, the state government appointed panel has suggested to file a review petition challenging the apex court order cancelling the quota in education and government jobs for the Maratha community,’’ said Fadnavis.

Reservation in promotion is with regard to the government resolution issued by the state government, he said.

Fadnavis said the state government needs to take action on crop insurance criteria. “The GST compensation is being received by the state governments as per the rules. Even in the case of cyclones, the Centre provides aid as per the rules after the state government submits its and after the inspection of the central team. The demand for an early development of a bulk drug park is just and we will follow up accordingly,’’ he added.
