A senior citizen was killed in a hit and run accident at Goregaon (West) on Tuesday. However, no arrests have been made yet. A case of rash driving and causing death due to negligence has been registered against the auto rickshaw driver at Goregaon police station and a search for him is underway.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Monday, when the senior citizen, Madhukar Vaidya, 65, was walking down MG Road in Goregaon (West). Vaidya was near Shamrao Vithal Co-operative Bank, when he was knocked down by an auto rickshaw around noon. The auto rickshaw, which was identified with the registration number MH-47-D-1257, did not stop and fled the scene.
Pedestrians and motorists rushed Vaidya to the hospital, where he was recuperating, but succumbed to internal injuries during the treatment on Tuesday. Subsequently, Goregaon Police registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the auto rickshaw driver along with charges of causing death due to negligence. The police has approached the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to identify the accused driver and no arrests have been made yet.
