The Metro depot at Charkop that will house Metro Line 2A and 7 will have a polyhouse to grow plants. The Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL), which will look after the maintenance and operations of both these Metro lines, has floated a tender for the second time, inviting agencies to construct the polyhouse and agro shed to grow plants under a controlled environment. The agency will take care of the supply of plants and maintenance for a period of two years.
An official said, “The plants grown at Charkop depot will be useful to carry out plantation drives at various Metro stations and in its periphery. Therefore, we aim to develop an in-house nursery.”
Agencies that are interested can submit their bids till July 13, the MMMOCL said. The earlier tenders that were floated did not get much response due to the pandemic. Therefore, the MMMOCL has floated the tender for the second time, with a revised timeline for submission of bids.
The Charkop Metro depot was primarily meant for Metro Line 2A (Dahisar to DN Nagar). But since the MMRDA is yet to get a nod for the proposed land at Dahisar to construct a depot for line 7 ( Dahisar E to Andheri E), the Charkop depot will be used for both the lines. The depot is spread on a 16 hectares open land parcel, comprising 18 stabling lines (area to Park rakes) and operation control centre building. Besides, the depot is well-equipped with a fully-automatic car wash plant, a fully-automatic PIT jack for lifting six coaches and supporting six coupled railcars for unscheduled repairs, involving the replacement of one or more boogies, 24 mobile jacks and a catenary maintenance vehicle.
The depot is essential to carry out smooth operations of the Metro line. It is where the rolling stock is washed and cleaned and all the repairing and maintenance is done.
