Navi Mumbai: 186 persons with disabilities turn up at special vaccination session under NMMC
A total of 186 persons with disabilities above the age of 18 years turned out for COVID vaccination at three centers during a special drive conducted by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC). The special drive for persons with disabilities above the age of 18 years were conducted at Mansaheb Mina Tai Thackeray Hospital, Nerul Rajmata Jijau Hospital, Airoli and E.S.I.S. in Vashi.
All of them took the first dose of COVID vaccination while a few paralyzed persons above 45 years of age took the second dose.
COVID-19: Kolhapur continues with highest positivity rate, Sindhudurg tops in oxygen bed occupancy
Kolhapur continues to have the highest COVID-19 positivity rate in Maharashtra as per the weekly figures shared by the state government, while neighbouring Sindhudurg has topped in terms of the oxygen bed occupancy.
While Kolhapur's positivity rate is 13.77 per cent, Sindhudurg's oxygen bed occupancy is 55.20 per cent.
These figures were shared by the Maharashtra disaster management department.
Last week, the positivity rate of Kolhapur was 15.85 per cent and its oxygen bed occupancy was 67.41 per cent - both highest in the state at that time.
The total number of oxygen beds occupied across the state is 16,570 and the trend is "declining", the data said.
In terms of the positivity rate, Raigad and Ratnagiri follow Kolhapur with 12.77 per cent and 11.90 per cent respectively, it said, adding that Gondia has the lowest positivity rate of 0.27 per cent.
Pune's positivity rate is now 9.88 per cent, while that of Nagpur is 1.25 per cent, it said.
In terms of the oxygen bed occupancy, Kolhapur is at the second position after Sindhudurg with 54.78 per cent. Wardha has the lowest bed occupancy of 0.45 per cent, the data said.
Mumbai's bed to occupancy is 23.56 per cent, which is higher than the state's average of 13.56 per cent, it said. Neighbouring Thane district's oxygen bed occupancy is 10.74 per cent.
A total of 2,016 oxygen beds in Mumbai city are occupied, while 9,097 are currently vacant. Similarly, 951 ventilators are engaged and 529 are currently not in use, the report said.
Pune's oxygen bed occupancy is 10.90 per cent and that of Nagpur is 2.17 per cent, it added.
With the "further decline" in the number of occupied oxygen beds in the state, the disaster management department on Friday asked all the municipal corporations and district collectors to issue relaxations in their jurisdictions.
Two small-time TV actresses held for theft
Two small-time television actresses have been arrested for allegedly stealing Rs 3.28 lakh from a woman in the western suburb of Goregaon here, police said on Friday.
The accused Surabhi Shrivastav (25) and Mohsina Shaikh (19) have worked in several web series and crime on television, an official said.
The accused were facing financial difficulties, as they were out of work due to the COVID-19 pandemic and were unable to pay the rent for their apartment, he said.
On May 18, the duo went to live at their friend's house in Aarey Colony, where they were accommodated as paying guests, the official said.
During their stay, the duo stole Rs 3.28 lakh from the locker of a woman, who lived at the facility, he said.
A complaint was lodged and following a probe, the police zeroed in on the two accused, who were spotted leaving the premises in a rush after stealing the cash, the official said.
The accused were placed under arrest for theft and Rs 50,000 cash was recovered from them, he said, adding that the women were produced before a court, which remanded them to police custody till June 23.
People's laxity may bring third wave, says Rajesh Tope
A possible third wave of the coronavirus infection could take place if people do not follow outbreak norms like maintaining hygiene and wearing masks, Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope said on Friday.
The minister also said there may be as many as 5,000 unreported COVID-19 deaths in the state, and these would be reconciled with the overall tally after all information about them is verified.
He told a regional news channel that it was not the crowd on the street that could trigger off a COVID-19 third wave, but "people not wearing masks and not following hygiene".
"Nobody can exactly predict a third wave. But by wearing masks and maintaining appropriate behavior, we can postpone its arrival and keep the impact to a minimum," Tope said.
