Mumbai: Duo booked for duping people promising government jobs

The Byculla police have registered an offence against two persons for allegedly duping people on the pretext of providing them jobs in the Central Excise department.

Those booked have been identified as Virar resident PA Padaave and Pune resident DK Panchaal.

According to the police, the complainant in the case is SD Kulye (59), a retired BMC official and resident of Mazgaon. In his complaint, the victim had stated that his son and son-in-law were in search of government jobs and in July 2018, the victim through one of his relative came in contact with Padaave, who claimed that he and his friend Panchaal had good contacts with people in various government departments and that they can get government jobs after a fixed amount of money is paid.

"Padaave told the victim that he can get the victim's son and son-in-law posted at the Central Excise department and demanded Rs 8 lakh each. After negotiating, Padaave agreed for Rs 7 lakh each and said he would get them posted a month after money is paid to him. Over the period of time, the victim paid Rs 9 lakh to Padaave and Panchaal. Panchaal even called the victim's son and son-in-law to Pune in October 2019, where he got their job applications filled and later also showed them their joining letters of November 2019 in his mobile phone," said a police officer.

He added, "Later, the duo started avoiding the victims and his relatives. Having realised that they were being duped, the victim got a complaint lodged in the matter with the Byculla police on June 21 under sections 34 (common intention), 406 (Punishment for criminal breach of trust) and 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code. We are enquiring about the allegations made by the victim."
