A case has been registered against Mumbai Regional Congress Committee (MRCC) president Ashok alias Bhai Jagtap and 40 party workers for violating Covid lockdown rules on Sunday. The party workers,along with Jagtap, had staged a demonstration and had formed a human chain in protest against the petrol price hike at S V Road in Goregaon on Saturday. All accused have been booked under relevant sections of the IPC.
The protestors were not wearing masks and were also not maintaining social distancing, the police said. They were shouting anti-government slogans over the constant fuel price hike.
They have been booked under Sections 188 (disobeying the order of public servant), 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection),along with various sections of the Maharashtra police act.
The Goregaon police is probing the matter. No arrests have been made.
