Amid the Task Force’s projection of the third wave of COVID-19 hitting Maharashtra in the next two to three weeks, the Public Health Department, on Wednesday, in its presentation to the state cabinet raised alarm over high weekly growth rate in 11 districts against the state average of 0.15% and high weekly positivity rate in 10 districts against the state average of 4.54%.
The 11 districts with a high weekly growth rate included Sindhudurg (1.21%), Ratnagiri (0.97%), Kolhapur (0.79%), Sangli (0.57%), Satara (0.40%), Raigad (0.39%), Palghar (0.24%), Solapur (0.21%), Ahmednagar (0.19%), Beed (0.19%) and Osmanabad (0.17%). The 10 districts with high positivity rate comprised Kolhapur (10.88%), Raigad (9.35%), Ratnagiri (7.97%), Sangli (7.66%), Satara (7.52%), Sindhudurg (7.45%), Pune (7.38%), Palghar (5.34%), Osmanabad (5.34%) and Beed (5.11%).
The department said Mumbai (14.94%), Pune (13.73%), Thane (11%), Sangli (7.58%), Kolhapur (7.32%), Satara (5.63%), Sindhudurg (4.52%), Ratnagiri (4.23%), Nashik (3.70%) and Raigad (3.52%) together have 76.19% of the total active COVID-19 patients at 1,23,340 as on June 22.
As far as mucormycosis is concerned, in all, 8,184 patients were detected, of which 2,884 were discharged and 4,407 are undergoing treatment. 764 patients died due to mucormycosis in the state as on June 22.
As far as the health infrastructure is concerned, there are 4.63,397 isolation beds excluding ICU, 3,34,355 isolation beds for COVID-19 patients, 1,29,129 beds for COVID-19 suspects, 1,06,007 oxygen beds, 32,829 total ICU beds, 12,863 ventilators, 15,23,414 personal protective equipment (PPE) kits and 23,03,940 N-95 masks.
