Kolkata: A day after asking the National Human Rights Commission to form a committee and review the post-poll violence situation in West Bengal and submit the report before the court by June 30, Calcutta High Court on Saturday again slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s government for not curbing the post-poll violence in the state.
“It is the state government’s duty to control the violence in the state and build confidence amongst the citizens. The TMC government has been completely inactive over the alleged post-poll violence situation and is not taking any action against the complaints of violence,” the Calcutta High Court observed.
The five-member bench headed by acting justice Rajesh Bingal on Saturday claimed that though the matter is pending in the court yet no action has been taken to bring back the displaced people.
Other Justices involved in the bench were I.P. Mukerji, Harish Tandon, Soumen Sen and Subrata Talukdar.
Notably, on Saturday, several people who were brought back home by Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar complained that they are still harassed by the alleged TMC supporters.
Meanwhile, after meeting the Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence, Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar claimed that the post-poll violence in West Bengal is first of its kind and also such an incident didn’t happen in India even after Independence.
However, slamming the West Bengal Governor TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar stated that the Governor is working on the behest of the BJP.
“Governor had made the Governor House the BJP party office. Instead of working at the behest of the saffron camp, the Governor should leave his post and work officially as BJP leader,” slammed the TMC MP.
