Thane, June 11: A JCB poclain was stuck inside a lake in Diva following heavy showers. It had gone inside the lake to carry out desilting work. Hydraulic cranes were brought in to remove the poclain.
Sources from the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) said the desilting work of Diva Lake near Diva Railway Station was going on from May 2021.
"For the desilting work, the water from the lake was removed.
Recently, after completing the day, the driver of the poclain machine parked it in the lake itself. The overnight rain increased the water level in lake and the JCB got submerged in the water," said Shailesh Patil, local corporator of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena from Diva.
As the lake is located near Diva Railway Station, passersby captured the video making the operation viral.
The pollution control board authorities of TMC carried out the operation. Manisha Pradhan, head of pollution control board confirmed about the poclain machine being stuck and refrained from speaking much about it.
A senior official from TMC said, "The poclain machine was stuck from Wednesday, due to heavy rain and alert from IMD it was kept as it is. On Friday, as rain stopped for some time, the authorities took the opportunity to remove it."
