The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) which has initiated the work of another Jumbo Covid-19 makeshift hospital at Malad, now targets to complete it by June 15. The officials made a site visit and instructed all agencies to accelerate the work & ensure the project completed on the said deadline.
The said COVID care centre will have about 2,100 beds and 190 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds to treat critical patients. Beside this, a distinctive isolation ward and special visiting area for relatives will also be available. In fact, 22 beds facility arrangement for children has also been made here.
The Malad Jumbo COVID centre will have will have oxygen supply system within its premises to avoid oxygen deprivation to the needy patients.
Mumbai is gearing up to get ahead of a potential third wave that experts fear could affect children. As part of it, MMRDA has been given the task by the state government to construct this jumbo Covid-19 facility. The open land comprising 40,000 sq. mtrs where this Jumbo COVID-19 care centre is coming up has been provided by the corporation.
The state government led by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray bestowed the responsibility on MMRDA to build another Jumbo COVID-19 makeshift hospital in Malad, similar to the lines of Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) Jumbo Covid-19 hospital. The existing BKC Jumbo care centre has helped Mumbai to tackle the COVID-19 situation effectively. The BKC jumbo COVID-19 centre was also compared to the Wuhan-type hospitals since it was build in a record break time to control the COVID-19 situation by the MMRDA.
It is working closely with a special task force that includes some of India's top pediatrician. On the other hand, the BMC is also reportedly building four big centres across the city with units for treatment of children infected with COVID-19.
