Mumbai: Observing that there is no urgency, the Bombay High Court has adjourned the hearing on bail application filed by gangster Ashwin Naik. The HC has adjourned the hearing till December.
Notably, Naik, who is named in numerous extortion cases, was caught red-handed while accepting extortion amount from a city-based builder in December 2015. The police claimed that the gangster had demanded Rs 50 lakh cash from the builder along with a lavish 6,000 sq feet flat in one of his projects at Dadar.
The gangster has been acquitted from over 16 murder and extortion cases.
A bench of Justice Sarang Kotwal accepted the medical report filed by the chief medical officer (CMO) of Taloja central prison, where Naik is presently lodged.
The CMO report stated that the waist-down paralysed gangster is stable.
"At present Naik's general health condition is haemodynamically stable and for his ailments, treatment is provided regularly to him as per the guidelines of Sir JJ Hospital," said the report submitted through public prosecutor S R Agarkar.
"We are taking all necessary care and Naik is being provided medicines and he will be given all medical facilities as and when required," the prosecutor told the court.
Having heard the submission and after perusing the medical report, Justice Kotwal said, "Hence in this view of the matter, no urgent orders are required to be passed, at this stage."
The judge accordingly adjourned the matter until December 12, 2020.
