Thane caps household Ganpati’s height to 2 ft

Thane: The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has issued directions regarding the height limits of Lord Ganesh idols for both household and sarvajanik pandals during this Ganesh festival. The civic body also assured to increase the immersion spots and has issued several directions to the Ganesh pandals on the precautions to be taken to curb the spread of the pandemic.

Besides, the TMC has also announced Swikruti centres for the immersion of Ganesh idols.

"As per the directions by TMC, the height limits of Ganesh idol for the household should be up to 2 feet and 4 feet for the sarvajanik pandals. Visiting both household and sarvajanik Ganpatis should be avoided by the citizens. Sarvajanik pandals have been instructed to follow the regular testing of people visiting pandals with help of thermal scanner and pulse oximeter. Besides, they have also been instructed to keep a regular record of the people visiting their pandals," informed the TMC official.

The official further added that the height of the pandals should not be more than 12 feet. The pandals have also been asked to sanitise their premises thrice in a day.

"To curb the crowd at immersion ghats, the big housing societies have been directed to carry out the immersions of their idol in their society premises in tanks. For household eco-friendly Ganesh idols, the immersion process should be followed at homes. For the idols made out of POP, the TMC has directed to use ammonium bicarbonate for the immersion at homes," informed the civic official.

The number of Swikruti centres has been increased to avoid the crowd during Ganpati immersion.

"The citizens have to donate their idols at these centres formed by TMC, where the immersion process will be carried by the team formed by TMC. Last year, three such centres were introduced, while this year total 20 such centres have been introduced considering the pandemic situation. Nearly 13 artificial lakes have been formed by TMC at various areas of Thane city," said an official.

The official also informed that the pandals have been instructed to make the maximum use of various social media, providing online Ganpati darshan for devotees, which will help to avoid gatherings at pandals.

"The sarvajanik pandals and household Ganpatis which are under containment zones will not be allowed to carry the idols out of their zones. Hence, we appeal citizens to co-operate with the civic officials during the festival by following all the precautionary measures to curb the spread of the pandemic in the city," added TMC official.
